
Egbert Junghanns, bass-baritone
Born in Saxony, Egbert Junghanns received his basic music education at home, he then joined the Dresden Kreuzchor, and studied in Dresden. His first engagement was with the Chemnitz Opera where he did his first roles Luna (Il Trovatore), Valentin (Faust) Barbier (Il Barbiere di Siviglia) and was very soon asked to join the Dresden State Opera where he sang Marcello (La Boheme) and Guglielmo (Cosi fan Tutte). From Dresden he was invited as guest singer to the State Opera Houses in Berlin and in Leipzig. He won prizes at the international singing competitions in Vienna, Karlovi Vari and Leipzig. Currently Egbert Junghanns is a free-lance singer and can frequently be seen on the opera stages of Venice, Milan, Madrid, Berlin, Vienna and Paris. He sang with the Dresden orchestra in Germany and in Japan. He sang under the batons of conductors such as Sir Colin Davis, Bernhard Haitink, Kurt Masur, Gerd Albrecht, Rafael Fruhbeck de Burgos, Marek Janowski, John Nelson and Peter Schreier and with orchestras like Israel Philharmonic, Czech Philharmonic, Lepzig Gewandhaus and Camerata Academica Salzburg. His discography includes Mass in G by Hasse and Bach's Johannes Passion for "Berlin Classics" and Highlights form 20th Century Operas by Krenek, Ullmann, Hartmann and Hindemith conducted by Albrecht and Janowski for "Orfeo/DLR Berlin".
